Denton, TX has plenty of events for the whole family in the next few months. From Arts and Antiques to a Pumpkin Patch. There is certainly an event that will please every member of your family.

The Arts in Antiques Show held in Denton,TX is held at the Downtown Square. The festival includes exhibits, shopping, and food. While you are on the Denton Square be sure you check out the other quaint shops like Recycled Books and Beth Marie's Ice Cream.

In the fall, one of my favorite things to do is pick out a pumpkin to carve! Denton County is home to several "Pumpkin Patches." Many of these Denton businesses offer hay-rides, fall festivities and of course, picking out the perfect pumpkin. It's only September - but I am ready to pick mine out already! Check out the Aubrey Pumpkin Patch and the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch.

On October 15th, 2011, the College of Music at UNT is offering a Musical Petting Zoo where students can go and explore with instruments. If you have been on the north side of Denton this past week you may have noticed an increase in activity! Not only are students coming back to Texas Woman's University and the University of North Texas, but the North Texas State Fair is in town!

The North Texas State Fair is certainly a great place to check out. From the rodeo to live music, carnival rides to corny dogs, there is something for everyone. They even have fun pony rides for the kiddos! Inside exhibit halls you can see the arts, crafts, photography & food that were entered by Denton residents. Some travel from miles to attend this once-a-year festival of fun.

The music scene in Denton has always been great. With UNT being an internationally recognized Music school, Denton has had some wonderful musical acts com through. This year at the North Texas State Fair, music lovers will be happy to know that bands such as the Josh Abbot Band, Jack Ingram, and the Randy Rogers Band are set to perform!

If you have been driving around Denton county in the past week you may have seen the A-Train sweep by you. The A-Train is part of the Denton County Transit Authority and has been up and running since June 20th.

There are some really wonderful features about the Denton A-Train. Commuters and those looking to just enjoy a day out can benefit from the rail system. Denton A-Train connects with the Dallas Area Rapit Transit - DART system, which can take you to places like the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas World Aquarium or Southern Methodist University (SMU). There are lots of things to do in Dallas - and Denton patrons can get there all by train.

Aside from the dazzling Dallas attractions you can enjoy, the Denton A-Train makes stops at Downtown Lewisville and Downtown Carrollton. Old Town Lewisville has many great shopping and dining options and a unique atomosphere that patrons are sure to enjoy. The next stop on the A-Train after Old Town Lewisville is Old Downtown Carrollton where you can find historic sites, restaurants, special events and more.

The Denton A-Train is perfect for commuters to Dallas. One commuter I spoke with said, "I have loved riding the train to work this past week. I don't have to worry about traffic or diving so I get to relax on the ride home" (Patti from Denton). Another rider said he rode the A-Train for financial reasons - "It would take me more money in gas to get back and forth from Denton to Dallas every day than it does for me to buy a month pass to ride the A-Train" (Victor from Denton). You heard it - Denton folks are liking the new A-Train already!

Denton, Texas - Arts and Jazz Festival Recap

If you were unable to attend the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival this past weekend, here is a small taste of what you missed.

Saturday was filled with music, dancing, food and fun! The first photo you see is the Center Stage. This stage is where the Denton ISD elementary school choirs perform. Seen here is Blanton Elementary singing their school song.

After watching some Denton ISD elementary choirs perform, we wandered around the festival gathering free goodies from Denton Municipal Electric and stopping by the Children's Art Tent. We splurged and got fresh squeezed lemonade and a funnel cake before watching another musical group perform.

The second photo shows the Festival Stage. They had dancers of all ages, bands and Denton ISD schools performing. On Saturday evening, the Denton High African Drumming Ensemble performed. You can see the laid-back atmosphere around the festival. Some children even went on stage and danced to the music! Our Saturday evening ended with watching the UNT 1 O'clock Lab Band on the UNT stage. Pictured in the third photo you will see the Grammy-nominated band playing a number.

Sunday the festival was shut down due to inclement weather. I'm sad to say the wonderful band Brave Combo did not play their scheduled show this year. There was rain, hail and lots of wind last Sunday! The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is scheduled for April 27^th, 28^th and 29^th in 2012. Clear your calendar now – You won't want to miss out!
